Private Tour to the baroque castle of Gödöllő, with dedicated English-speaking guide, private vehicle and entrance tickets
Duration: 4 hours
Count Antal Grassalkovich, one of the most respectable noblemen in Hungary started the construction of a family-mansion in Gödöllő in 1733. The unique "Hungarian Baroque" style served as a model for other Hungarian mansions of the Baroque period. The double U form and the huge garden of the castle were targets of several expansions and alteration works. After the compromise of 1867 with the Habsburgs the Hungarian state purchased the castle and gave it to Emperor Francis Joseph and Queen Elisabeth (Sissi) as a coronation present. Queen Elisabeth particularly liked to stay here.
Main sights: the main staircase, the gala hall, the Queen's reception salon, her writing and dressing rooms, her bedroom, Franz Joseph's study and smoking salon, the Rococo Chapel, and the Baroque Theatre.
After the breathtaking visit, you may want to stop for a coffee served in an authentic ceramic cup and a cake in the castle's coffee-house, or might want to have a walk in the gardens.
