The double U form and the huge garden of the castle were targets of several expansions and alteration works. After the compromise of 1867 with the Habsburgs the Hungarian state purchased the castle and gave it to Emperor Francis Joseph and Queen Elisabeth (Sissi) as a coronation present. Queen Elisabeth particularly liked to stay here.
